COURTS: A judge has blasted the irresponsible and dangerous driving of a man who failed to stop for Gardaí, after he sped through a built up housing estate where children were playing to get away from them.Haroon Mirza, 35, with an address of 21 Ashfield, Letterkenny appeared at Letterkenny District Court in relation to the incident which occurred on the 6th, January, 2016. The court heard how Mr Mirza failed to stop for Gardaí when signalled to do so – and attempted to speed away from them which could’ve caused a fatal accident.Inspector Goretti Sheridan told the court, “On the 6th, January of this year, Garda Elaine Gordon signalled for the driver of a maroon Honda Civic vehicle to pull over.“However, he failed to do and gained speed in an effort to get away from the Gardaí, at one point he dangerously drove right across the road which forced a vehicle to brake to a halt.“He continued his attempts to speed away from Gardaí and drove into a housing estate at high speeds.“He sped around a corner where a mother and her small child were walking, and at no point attempted to slow down.“He flew around another corner and narrowly avoided a man who was out walking his dog.“He then exited the vehicle and attempted to get into his home, but he was apprehended by Gardaí.“The car had no tax, or NCT, and Mr Mirza was already disqualified from driving and had no license or insurance.Solicitor for the defendant Patsy Gallagher said his client apologies profusely for his actions – but added that a family emergency had forced Mr Mirza to occupy the vehicle on the day in question.Mr Gallagher said, “My client deeply regrets his actions and apologies to the court profusely for his irresponsible actions.“It’s remarkable given his previous convictions that he finds himself in this position, but as I’ve said he is very, very apologetic for his actions, and accepts he was totally wrong.“He’s a married man with one child, and he works as a Computer Analyst for a International company based here locally.“He’s actually going to the USA, for a refresher course for his new company in the next few weeks.“The reason he got behind the wheel was because his child was ill, and went to the chemist to get medicine.“His wife who owns the vehicle didn’t want to leave the child, but they now accept what happened was wrong, but that’s why he drove the vehicle.“My client fully accepts that his license is gone, and as I’ve told him he shouldn’t be allowed to drive a lawnmower, never mind a car.“I’m in the hands of the court, but I’d like to stress to the court that he’s the sole breadwinner for his family.“I would hope the courts could fashion a sentence that punishes him appropriately, but still gives him leeway with his life going forward, and gives him a chance to continue to provide for his family.Judge Paul Kelly said, “I’m not accepting that for one second, that’s utter nonsense, if he needed to go to the chemist for his child, he could’ve got a taxi.“He knew he should never have drove that vehicle, and then when he did his driving could’ve caused a fatal accident.“He was fully aware he was being pursued by Gardaí and he didn’t stop, instead he endangered lives of pedestrians and children in a housing estate.“It could’ve been fatal, an he’s lucky to be even allowed to go to the USA – considering his previous convictions.“I’ll adjourn the matter to June 13th, and I request a probation report to be prepared on the defendant.“However, I’m not excluding the prospect of a custodial sentence in this matter, your client is very much in peril here Mr Gallagher.MAN DROVE EXCESSIVELY THROUGH HOUSING ESTATE AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE WITH GARDAÍ was last modified: April 11th, 2016 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:AngerchasecourtsdisqualifieddrivingGardaiJudge Paul Kellynews
With ad pages dwindling and the print business model in question, more publishers are debating whether or not to charge for content online. While the practice has its obvious bonuses—subscription revenue, more detailed demographics, etc.—some publishers are struggling with whether it’s worth sacrificing traffic.“If your brand is strong enough as a news analysis source, especially in the b-to-b space, then I say go for it,” said John Rockwell, vice president of marketing and e-media for Access Intelligence’s Chemical Business Media. “It’s about making every customer touch count. If you’re not, then you’re leaving money on the table.”CBM switched its Chemical Week and Chemical Engineering magazine Web sites to a paid-content model at the end of 2007. So far, the group has generated 30,000 new customers which helped stop a 30-year slide in total revenue and revenue per customer. “We had a paid content system before, but not a smart one,” Rockwell said. “While we’re requiring that people register we also dramatically improved the user experience—in terms of making access to the content as easy as possible—which, we think, balances the perceived trade-off.” Nearly all content at Chemweek.com is accessed only by subscription. Sub prices range from $200 to “several thousand dollars” annually for e-newsletters, white papers and other “high value” services, Rockwell said. Chemical Engineering’s CHE.com features some free areas, accessed only when users register. Roughly 6 percent of those free users convert to paid subscribers. Overall, conversions and renewals at both magazines rose 15 percent since late 2007. Revenue per subscriber increased 14 percent. Unique visitors have increased by 225 percent.“We’ve been lucky in that we’ve been able to turn users into subscribers, and scoop up more market share while we were at it,” Rockwell said. “In this down economy, I’ll take it.”

Star Wars Resistance shows Poe Dameron, BB-8 giving out… All the Star Wars movies, from the cheesy to great, ranked 1:00 Share your voice Now playing: Watch this: 0 Post a comment Since the First Order obliterates the D’Qar base at the start of The Last Jedi, which takes place shortly after this point, Nekku probably saved their lives by failing to send them there. It seems likely that this group (except maybe the less honorable pirates) will continue to fight the First Order in the aftermath of The Last Jedi, when the Resistance has almost been wiped out. So they could be some of the first members of the next generation of the Resistance, answering the distress beacon Leia sent out.Tam is about to make a big decision. Lucasfilm Tam chooses the First OrderAfter two episodes of the incredibly charming First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny (Sumalee Montano) manipulating her, Tam turns away from her friends and joins the militaristic group. The events leading up to Tam’s decision are perfectly handled, and it genuinely feels like she could go either way. Kaz and Yeager plead with her to stay, but she’s furious that they kept her out of the loop as they worked with the Resistance. From her point of view, going with Tierny and Commander Pyre (Liam McIntyre) is the logical choice.Tierny realizes that Tam could be swayed one way or the other, since she stops the vicious Pyre from blasting Kaz so the First Order will continue to seem like a force for good. Also cool is Tierny’s helmet design — it’s inspired by Darth Vader’s iconic helmet and the one worn by Agent Kallus in Rebels. And she wields dual blasters, Jango Fett-style!Will we see Tam return as antagonist in Season 2?Tam, Tierny and Pyre could be a dangerous trio of adversaries for the Resistance. Lucasfilm Stormtroopers in watery gravesSeveral Stormtroopers get washed off the Colossus as part of Nekku’s plan to drive the First Order out, but they have surprisingly dark fates given the show’s usual lighthearted tone — they appear to either drown or get eaten by some of the planet’s native fish. We even see a fish swimming by with a helmet in its mouth in one of the establishing shots. Nekku’s getting ruthless!Overall, this is an amazing ending for a season that has occasionally struggled with pacing but found its groove and did a great job of raising the stakes in the latter half.Star Wars Resistance will return for a second season in the fall, a few months before Episode 9 hits theaters on Dec. 20. 23 Photos Looks like Yeager, Kaz and Torra are in trouble as they face off with a pair of First Order Fighters. Lucasfilm Well, that was exciting. The final episode of Star Wars Resistance’s first season pretty much flips the table on the CGI animated series’ comfortable formula, as Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono (aka Kaz, played by Christopher Sean) steps up immediately after losing his home and family. The Colossus refueling platform remains submerged beneath the oceans of Outer Rim planet Castilon, but the First Order is eager to hunt down Kaz and reassert control over the platform. With Tam Ryvora (Suzie McGrath), Jarek Yeager (Scott Lawrence), Colossus boss Captain Doza (Jason Hightower) and the Ace pilots in First Order custody, Kaz has to move quickly. We have liftoffHaving just discovered that the Colossus has a hyperdrive, mechanic Neeku Vozo (Josh Brener) manages to get it airborne and off Castilon (despite the First Order sending a Star Destroyer to stop it!).This is wildly exciting and sets up a completely different status quo. Could the Colossus end up as the new Resistance base in Episode 9? Will the show’s second season fill in the time period between The Last Jedi and Episode 9?During the episode, Doza mentions that the Colossus hasn’t moved in 20 years — that’d mean it arrived on Castilon six years after the Empire’s final defeat at the Battle of Jakku. With any luck, we’ll learn its full history sometime; Doza and Yeager (as former members of the Empire and Rebel Alliance respectively) seem like prime candidates to star in a novel.Things get tense on the Colossus as the First Order tries to take back control. Lucasfilm The New Resistance? The pirate group that the First Order betrayed, led by Synara San (Nazneen Contractor), and the prisoners that previously escaped return to stop the First Order from destroying the Colossus as it ascends to space. After an exceptional aerial battle, in which Kaz finally takes down TIE fighter pilot Major Vonreg (Lex Lang), they all get onto the platform/space station before it jumps to hyperspace. Kaz gave Nekku the coordinates for the Resistance base on D’Qar, but he didn’t input them fully and doesn’t know where they’ll end up.”Well, wherever we’re going at least we’re all together… most of us,” says Kaz. Pant made a strange prediction which turned out to be true.IPL InstagramRishabh Pant’s verbal prowess behind the stumps has become extremely popular since India’s tour of Australia. Known to be a bit of a loose cannon, the young wicketkeeper has courted major controversy for his comments during Delhi Capitals’ match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Feroz Shah Kotla on March 30.The incident in question happened when KKR was batting and had just lost their first wicket for the score of 16. Robbie Uthappa had come out to replace Nikhil Naik who was dismissed by Sandeep Lamichhane and 3.4 overs had been bowled. As Uthappa was taking guard, Pant said from behind the stumps, “Yeh toh waise bhi chauka hai”. He meant to say that the next ball will anyway be a four. As it turned out, the fifth ball of the fourth over went to the boundary through cover. @DineshKarthik Today’s match was fixed how Rishabh pant already knews that next ball going to be four on 3.5 it means match was fixed pic.twitter.com/TVZZ5hVywg— Telesh lalwani (@TeleshLalwani) March 30, 2019The truth of the prediction made by Pant prompted fans on social media to allege a fixing angle. Here are some of the tweets. Darpan Bhagabaty – Is IPL 2019 fixed? Why Rishabh pant was sure that the next delivery would go for four?MH – Fixing is directly proportional to Indian Premier League. Saw a live scene where Rishabh Pant was heard saying ‘Yeh to wese bhi chauka hai’ before Sandip Lamichane bowled to Robin Uthappa. Guess what, the ball went on to the boundary. Lol.UNDERDOG – rishabh pant did spot fixing and also match was fixed..If pant wanted he can hit in moment delhi stop himself to hit..Even shaw were thereTalesh lalwani – Match is fixed How Rishabh Pant already knew before balling that it was four Match Fix kiya h tabhi KKR DC se kese haar skti haiAshish Vyas – IPL, BCCI, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Delhi Police, BJP just before 3.5 rishabh pant caught on stump mic saying “Ye to waise bhi chokka hai” and the next ball goes for four.Clearly match fixing. commentators totally ignored this thingshubham verma – What Rishabh pant just said “Yeh toh aise bhi 4ka hai”. Are IPL players involved in any kind ko fixing. Anyone certainly have doubts comming around in their minds after all.Coming to the match, KKR had lost five wickets for just 61 runs but made a fantastic recovery courtesy the power of Andre Russell and prowess of skipper Dinesh Karthik to reach 185 in their quota of 20 overs. Delhi Capitals, bolstered by the brilliance of Prithvi Shaw, matched their rivals prompting a super over. Kagiso Rabada turned hero for the home team as he defended 10 runs wherein he got the dangerous Russell out with a perfect yorker. Unfortunately, the Pant stump microphone incident is overshadowing one of the best matches in IPL history.
Mo Salah will be a key player for the Reds in their game against ChelseaClive Brunskill/Getty ImagesLiverpool is enjoying a highly-successful season in this year’s English Premier League and is on course to claim the trophy after a long gap of 29 years. They now host Chelsea in what may be their last really tough game of the season. A victory here should almost guarantee the title to the Reds.Where to watch? This marquee contest of EPL would begin at 4:30 pm local time and 9:00 pm IST.Star Sports Select 2 & HD 2 will provide live television coverage of the match in India. The live streaming will be available on Hotstar.Who will win?Liverpool is the overwhelming favourites going into this game. They are currently leading the points table, but only have a two points gap over Manchester City, having played one game more than their title rivals. However, the latter team are yet to face Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in their remaining matches. Jorgen Klopp’s team, on the other hand, have a smooth ride ahead. This means a victory for the Reds would bring them within sniffing distance of the title. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to take his team to their first EPL title in 29 yearsJulian Finney/Getty ImagesHowever, the Blues can look towards history to motivate themselves. They haven’t lost at Anfield in their last six matches against Liverpool. Two of them have ended in a victory for the visitors. One has to go back to 2012 for the last time the hosts won against Chelsea at this ground.Even the overall record seems encouraging for Maurizio Sarri-led team. They have been unbeaten in their last five matches against this weekend’s opponents. But this domination would be up against an equally impressive streak — that of Liverpool having remained unbeaten in their last 17 home games in this season’s Premier League. So, it promises to be a thrilling match and one that would see either the Reds strengthening their chances of sealing the EPL title or opening the door for City to comeback.Key PlayersEden Hazard would be the star player for Chelsea. He has been in great form with 16 goals this season, not to mention many others that he has helped set up. Callum Hodson Odoi is likely to be back in the team also. For the hosts, Robert Firmino will be a key player as he has scored seven home goals this season. Mohammed Salah, though, is still the best bet for the Reds to breach Chelsea’s defence.History is on Chelsea’s side while current form favours Liverpool. Something is going to give in this clash of English giants.Probable XIsLiverpool: Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Andrew Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum; Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino Chelsea: Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso; Jorginho, N’golo Kante, Ross Barkley; Callum Hudson-Odoi, Gonzalo Higuain, Eden HazardGlobal TV ListingsUK: BT SportGermany: DAZNItaly: Sky SportSpain: Movistar+US: NBC SportCanada: TSNAustralia: Optus SportBangladesh: Star Sports
